Origami > Floating dock, Alexis Deconinck, 2020
Building a floating reception pavilion for visitors is improving access conditions to the Festival on the Port à Fumier site in Camon. It is also an opportunity to group reception and ticketing for the public, boarding and disembarking from boats, as well as equipment storage spaces, in the same space. Installation very open to its environment, Origami delicately fits into the Hortillonnages landscape. By its folded and aerial shape, the pontoon is inspired by the Japanese tradition of the art of folding paper. With its large sloping sides, it defies gravity while floating on the water. The wooden structure is visible, it is punctuated by regularly spaced beams which follow the broken line of the roof. A stripped-down, almost naked object, Origami presents a contemporary form where aesthetics and technique are one. The materials are simple, there are few. There is no carpentry or finishing work: everything is structured.
