In this landscaped and wooded nature, here and there, trunks await and punctuate our gaze. Lying down or vertical, in more or less advanced decompositions, they form another landscape, a third territory which nests the often imperceptible and constantly renewed activities of insects, larvae, worms, beetles, of everything that perpetuates a nature lively and active. This nature opens the doors to a positive future as a world of preserved biodiversity. For the ELDORADO lille3000 edition, Yuhsin U Chang had spotted in the Parc des Buissonnets a dead tree, isolated, still vertical, without foliage, massive, with an imposing root system from which emerge its two barrels to create her sculpture Mémoire d’arbre. Disassembled and reinstalled on a plot of the Festival, the work retains all its plastic strength and emotional intensity. Here again, it is part of a landscape and a particular nature since, in the Hortillonnages area, the living is present in different forms, all linked to the intervention of man over time. A sculptural and metaphorical gesture, the work Mémoire d’arbre draws a cycle between past and present, redrawing the cycle of transformation of living things : a link, a place of transformation, a passage while inscribing it in the memory of trees.
